Well, considering that quite a few lesfic presses do precious little or no marketing--or expect authors to do most or all of it for them--this is good news. Except you're still left with the problem of getting the word of mouth started. Especially when you're with a POD press that has bugger all presence in book stores. _________________ Life. |

* 91 percent are likely to seek out an author's previously published titles after reading a novel from an author they like
= make sure readers know where to find your previous books. Keep an updated webpage, and make sure your webpage link is in each book that gets published.
* What makes readers try new authors? Recommendations from friends or acquaintances
= Get your books talked about on review sites and fiction chat-groups. Send copies of your books to reviewers so they'll read it and talk about it. _________________ Amazon Rank = AMAZNO.com |

Has anybody ever compiled a list of lesfic review sites and chat groups?
I know about here and a couple of yahoo groups (is that right? are these "groups"?) -- lesfic unbound and lesbian spec fic -- but the yahoo whatever-they-ares don't seem much like review sites and I hardly ever go there (something remote about them; I feel like I'm watching from the outside, my nose squished up against invisible glass).
And after that I'm clueless ..... |

A potential promo opportunity:

"I am the erotic fiction editor of Scarlet magazine (http://www.scarletmagazine.co.uk/), the UK's hottest mag for women. I'm currently seeking pitches from published authors for a monthly page called 'Juicy Bits' in which an author selects a favourite extract from a published book/story, which we then reprint along with some information including price and publisher. There's no payment involved but we have been informed anecdotally that sales tend to go up after the print run, so obviously it's most suited to a book that's just about to come out.
"If you think any of your authors might be interested, please do get them to get in touch with me on this email address. The extract we require is only 400-500 words, so not much, and we also need a brief synopsis of the story, an explanation of why they chose it, publisher and price details for the book and a high res picture of the cover. All this info (and more!) can be found at http://scarletmagazine.co.uk/write4cliterature.aspx.
"Thanks in advance for your help,
Nicky
(Cliterature editor)" |
They say they're okay with f/f, so if you've got a published novel with some good erotic scenes, it might be worth pitching one to them. _________________ Amazon Rank = AMAZNO.com |
